A natural result of the Super Saturday/Wild Wednesday program and Public School Outreach is the relationship building that occurs between UFM volunteers and the students they serve. Urban Family Ministries’ mentoring program is designed to enhance these relationships. Our volunteer mentors work with one (or sometimes two) students by simply “hanging out” regularly, loving them in all sorts of ways. Sometimes it’s just going out for ice-cream, while other times it’s talks about life, relationships, doing the right thing, answering questions about Jesus or anything else. Many of the children have said that their time with their UFM Mentor is the highlight of their week. Long-time mentors often find themselves mentoring the student's family in some way too.
Want to mentor a child? A good place to begin is to attend our Super Saturday program for a few weeks. This is a great place to see and meet a lot of our kids all at once. The best mentoring relationships happen naturally, and you are sure to make a connection with at least one of them!
