Other Programs

There are many other programs and activities we do with neighborhood children and their families that provide us opportunity to walk life with them and share Jesus.  These programs also offer many volunteer opportunities for you. . . . .

  • Food Pick Up & Delivery:  Many of our programs incorporate a meal or nutritious snack for the kids.  Sometimes back up help is needed for our regular volunteers that do all the running around for the food.  We'd love to add you to our food team.

  • Friday Movie Night:  Periodically we bring a group of neighborhood children to our youth center for a movie on a Friday evening.  During the summer we try to do this a couple of Friday nights each month.

  • One-time Service Projects:  There are always projects at our Youth Center that need attention, such as landscape maintenance and cleanup, deep cleaning of the facility interior, minor facility repairs, etc., as well as neighborhood cleanup projects, or helping one of our families with a minor repair to their home or car.

  • Neighborhood Outreach Meals:  A few times each year we host a meal as an outreach into the neighborhood.  It can be a pancake breakfast, or a hotdog roast or fish fry, for example.  This is a perfect project for a class or adult group to provide the food and manpower.  UFM staff is present during all meals.

  • Woodshop Classes:  Volunteers have conducted weekly after-school woodshop classes during the school year for 4th-8th grade boys from the neighborhood.  We have the equipment, but facility issues have put this program on hold.

  • Building Bridges:  Bethany Christian Services in partnership with Urban Family Ministries has developed this employment program that serves at-risk urban youth in the community.  The program maintains the landscapes of over 70 properties through grass cutting and snow removal.  The program teaches youth the basics of work ethic, professional etiquette, timeliness, payroll and tax procedures, and exposure to business development.  Youth work 24 hours a week from April through September and then on an as-needed basis during the fall and winter months.  Youth are paid wages.  The program is funded by grants secured by Bethany and landscaping revenue.  If you are interested in hiring Building Bridges to provide a service for you, please click here for more information.

The task of reaching the children and families of the inner-city for Jesus is too big for only a handful of people. That's why God gave us each other. Many faithful partners work with us to see the Lord's mission at Urban Family Ministries come to reality.  Won't you join us?
